Still on the job hunt. Still in apartment limbo. Sigh.
In NYC for three weeks and what's an unemployed girl to do? Dress up and dine out! Right now is currently "Restaurant Week" in New York which is going from February 16-March 6. So not so much a week, but we can look past that for the discounts! A large group of restaurants are offering $25.00 lunches and $38.00 dinners (drinks not included!). The lunches or dinner include a starter, entree and a dessert, so clearly me and my friends are taking advantage of the time to live it up and dine at some seriously dreamy restaurants. Last night, me and a group of girls went to Delmonico's in the Financial District and had a salad, petit filet, and chocolate mousse cake that typically is beyond my current financial situation. The only other way I see myself getting a deal like this would be to land a date, which will not be likely for quite sometime. But that's another issue altogether.
Since this "week" is really over half a month, I hope I can hit some of the other restaurants on my little foodie bucketlist. I promise to keep you in the loop and if you're in New York City now is the time to be adventurous your dining!

My "First" Design Job
As I have been searching for design jobs and researching the interior design industry in New York City, apparently most people consider spending under $10,000 per room a bargain. Thank God these people are willing to pay me to do these rooms for $10,000 or more, otherwise I would have no future, so I should not scoff. But I have been challenged to create a bedroom, bathroom and living room proposal for a client with a budget of $30,000 for all three rooms. I maintained the original fixtures and not factoring in the cost of the subcontractors, my total cost for furnishings, lighting, decor, tile and wallcoverings came in at $17,067! I am so UNDER budget! My fictional first Manhattan based client is a young professional who lives in the Upper East Side. She wanted a space where should come home to at night and feel pampered, but she also wanted the perfect set-up to host girl's night in. Each room has subtle and not-so-subtle feminine touches and glamour and mixes bold, modern silhouettes with more personal vintage finds.

The $100 Art Gallery
Since my last post I have been interviewing and searching for a job like crazy. In addition to the job search, I have started the daunting process of finding an apartment here in New York City. Maybe the most depressing thing ever. The "Friends" apartment is not the reality - the broker's fees alone are enough to make you cry over a space that doesn't even have a private bathroom. I just can't.
To cheer myself up, I have been fantasizing about how to feather my nest after I am broke from paying rent and have been trying to find some high impact design solutions that match the recent college grad budget. I was on my new go-to site, Lulu and Georgia and flipped out when I realized that their prints are fabulous, unique and SO affordable. So grateful Lulu and Georgia reaffirmed my belief that I may be able to put together a cute little retreat in this city.

Welcome to NEW YORK!
It has been quite some time since I have posted here! Well, I am back. In my absence from blogging, I have graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and have my degree in Interior Architecture and Textile Science! Since graduating in December, I have decided to move to New York City to go after all of my wildest design dreams. I am committing to documenting my time in Manhattan several times a month. This time I know I can do it! I want to share with you my design experiences, products and inspiration as I grow as a design professional. I welcome you to follow my Instagram account for more frequent accounts of what I am doing (@toriburtonofficial). Here's to new beginnings!
