Give Me Love

I have been seeing the exhibit "Give Me Love" by Yayoi Kusama on Instagram and have been meaning to get to it.  Well - when you put these things off and work full time and decide to go at 4:30 on a Saturday, you learn they closed early because the line was over 2 hours long.  This is what  happens when fabulous things are free and open to the public!

Like I'm going to go all the way to Chelsea and not see this room?  I don't think so.  After the loser line guy wouldn't let me wait at the end, I walked around the back and got to sneak in to see the room (it was set up like a small home) and really look at the kitchen.  The exhibition is sooo sticker covered it is getting ridiculous - but that is the point!  Sadly, I couldn't leave my personal touch because no one gives you a sticker sheet when you sneak in.

Overall - amazing and happy I jumped on the bandwagon and saw it for myself - NOT worth a two hour wait for those who stayed and were sweaty in line.

In other news, I have a fabulous new design project that I hope to be able to document in my blog!

Hamptons!

Well the holiday has come and gone!  I got my first dose of the Hamptons and it was EVERYTHING you would imagine it to be.  Beach time.  Fried Clams.  Shopping.  You name it!

I fortunately have an aunt who has a home on 3 Mile Harbor in East Hampton and was able to make it out of Manhattan last Friday night.  I took the weekend off from work and enjoyed the time to relax and enjoy the saltwater and fresh air before throwing myself back into work this week - I have had a client meeting every night this week after work and am hoping to share some projects with you soon!

Here are some pictures from my weekend and the only proof I had beach hair!

Through the Looking Glass

Last night I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the newest fashion exhibit, Through the Looking Glass since I missed the MET Ball last week.

I have been to quite a few exhibits, including the Alexaner McQueen exhibit, and I think this is their best ever.  The exhibit spans over two floors and is absolutely breathtaking.  Seeing traditional Chinese robes and the celebration of Eastern art in Western design is really stunning.  I really respected that the focus wasn't on being entirely true to a culture, but the artist an the beautiful reinterpretaion of Chinese art and fashion.   There was a striking mix of traditional Chinese wear with Western designers such as Chanel, YSL and Dior.

The lower level had a bold, mirrored gallery as seen below that was reminiscent of a runway.  In between the two displays were two adjacent screens that were playing video clips of different Chinese settings.  The use of mirrors, screens, lighting and music really created its own little world.

Upstairs, there were several galleries, each with their own focus whether it was YSL's Opium fragrance or a room dedicated to blue and white china.   My favorite room upstairs was a garden of Dior and Margiela.  The floor was highly reflective and black to appear as water and reflected lights that were projected on the ceiling - I can not do it justice and you just have to see it for yourself.  I went through the exhibit twice and am dying to go back again soon.

After Through the Looking Glass, I went to the temple of Dendur - my favorite place in the MET - and the European sculpture garden.  I have never been to the MET before at night and the lighting changes everything - so stunningly beautiful.

So basically I had way too much fun by myself at a museum on a Saturday night.  But everyone MUST go see Through the Looking Glass.

#Donaldartbombsbergdorfs

This Thursday night might have been the most spectacular night I've had here in NYC.  My all time favorite artist, Donald Robertson, has been working weeks - let's be real longer - on an insane art installation at Bergdorfs.  In the past he has had partnerships with Smashbox and J. Crew, but his Bergdorfs takeover features collaborations with Kenzo, Estee Lauder, and my favorite - Clare V.

Clare V. is a LA based handbag line that is simply stunning, timeless and uses most beautiful leather and patterns in their bags.   Lucky me, Clare V. is my college roommate's aunt and I had the opportunity to meet her at NYC boutique and start my CV collection!

I have been religiously following Clare and Donald on Instagram and when I saw the first post about them hosting an event at Bergdorfs I immediately cleared my calendar.

I hurried over to Bergdorfs right after work, fortunately I'm on the same block!  First of all - I was blown away by the window displays and the level of genius that Donald has - the one window featured a Donald rendition of the Matisse Cut Outs book from the MoMA!  It's too good!! After I had taken in the windows I made my way up to the third floor passing displays at every turn with Donald's painted pizza box towers and Gaffer's tape.  Donald offered custom painting on Clare's bags and Bergdorfs shopping bags - I would have DIED.  But there was a $1,000 minimum so this poor girl could not take home a custom piece, I think I will get over it in time.

I had the chance to speak with Clare and then I snuck past the line of actually fabulous people to introduce myself to Donald!  I told him I adored him and he was just as lovely as I imagined he would be!  Afterwards I honestly had a freakout because I had had a conversation with one of my biggest design inspirations - only in NYC!

Two days later and I still can't get over that I was able to watch my favorite artist in person and that I met two of my all time favorite designers.  Design dreams DO come true - thank you NYC!

Lighten up

Cherishing my weekend at home and the savings from not being in Manhattan.  A major priority for me this weekend was getting my hair cut and colored!  I am obsessed but adjusting to having my hair seriously colored for the first time ever!

Spring Makeover

Spring cleaning applies to your cosmetic bag too!  Now that the weather is getting warmer and I am starting to bring out my sundresses and sandals, it's time to freshen up my face too.

I splurged after work (broke by choice) and picked up a few key items for spring.  My first choice was "Dallas" blush by Benefit - forget bronzer.  Dallas gives you a healthy glow without the risk of appearing orange and over done.  I like to use it on my cheekbones as a blush and then lightly apply a little across my nose and forehead to even out my coloring.

A new item for me is the "High Beam" also by Benefit Cosmetics - Benefit is my all time favorite.  I keep seeing photos of Gigi Hadid and other celebs with that fresh, bright dewy look and High Beam seems like it could be the answer.  It is applied with a nail polish like brush and you just make little dots under and around your eyes and down the center of your face.  Just blend in with your finger and the areas you have highlighted will appear clean and bright.  I'm so into it.

Lastly,  I used up 2 of my lipglosses completely, perhaps for the first time ever so I bought the "Bellini" colored lip cream from Buxom - another one of my favorite cosmetic lines.  It's pretty neutral, but glossy, plumping and nourishing and I think it is the quintessential lip color for spring.  I think lipstick is still great for nighttime, but I think lipgloss is the way to go this spring.

Now I just need to get my hair cut/colored!
