I decided to start with a dresser. I am obsessed with clothes and the little piles of random things on my floor that I keep trying to slide under my bed are driving me insane! I got the basic Malm dresser from ikea. It is similar in profile to some of the ones that I was looking at from CB2 and for the price you cannot beat the storage. Even with the tax, shipping and delivery fees being equivalent to the cost of the piece, I am totally ok with this purchase. Although there is an Ikea in Brooklyn, I am not paying for the taxi ride home for me to try to recruit somebody, anybody, to help me haul this thing up three flights of stairs. I am more than happy to put some delivery boys to work! I am planning on putting the dresser across from my closets to create a "dressing room" between the bed and the bathroom. This studio is all about me and the idea of a dressing room makes me so so happy and excited. I have a fabulous lamp back at home in Minnesota that I will pray my mom will find a way to safely ship out to me and will eventually try to find a mirror to go above the dresser. And a jewelry stand. And some decor. These things take time!
The second item I ordered was a Serena and Lily Atelier Side Table that I had had on my Pinterest board for quite some time. It was originally $395, but with their sale and an additional 20% of sale, I got it for just under $200 with tax and shipping. This is a better deal even than some of the less fabulous Target and CB2 options (sorry CB2 is getting bashed in this post) that I had been looking at and they had considerably higher shipping and delivery charges. I love this piece because my bedding is white and frilly and I really want to make my apartment a blend of glamour, pops of color, modern and feminine. And I have just really had a thing for light blue lately? I can't explain it.
I will make sure to take pictures once the pieces arrive and can't wait to share with you how my space comes together as it begins to look like a real grown-up space. Just remember, I'm on a serious budget and trying to make all my fabulous interior design dreams come true.
Take Care,
T
